The sword of a king is often made not to serve him in battle, but instead to commemorate its coronation and the great works that he will achieve. This Sword of Alphonso X is one such blade that features ornamental features worthy of a great and wise king. Most often known as Alphonso the Wise, or more simply as the Astrologer, Alphonso was a King of Castile and Leon who did much in the way of academia, and he also helped to establish Castilian as a language of higher learning. This rendition of his sword features a stainless steel blade with a long ricasso, with an etching down the blade that is twice as long as the ricasso. The ornate guard features a carved and twisted pair of quillons, while the grip is wire-wrapped to provide a secure hold when the sword is handled. The pommel is equally ornate, featuring a leaf shape and additional carved designs. Included with the sword is a black leather sheath. All of the engraved carvings, etchings, and ornate detailings on this Sword of Alphonso X make it a rather kingly looking weapon, as well as a fine display piece that scholars and historians alike can enjoy, thanks to the advancements that this king made in learning and history.
