Cherry blossoms are also known as the flowers of Bushido, representing the short lives of samurai warriors and glorious death on the battlefield. Wield the Spring Sakura Katana and step back into the age of samurai warriors and the brutal lives they led.
A Tribute to Bushido
Forged from 5160 high-carbon steel, this katana shows off a traditional craftsmanship dating back millennia. Carbon steel is renowned for its strength and durability. This katana, also known as the Japanese longsword, can be wielded with one or both hands. The katana is designed with a Sakura motif, also known as the Japanese cherry blossom.
The blade has been differentially hardened to reveal a stunning visible hamon line. Hamon is the wavy pattern along the cutting edge of the blade. The sharpened blade is curved slightly like true uchigatana from feudal Japanese history. The uchigatana is another traditional term for describing a slightly curved Japanese katana. Designed for the modern samurai warrior, the blade has the iconic bohi along the blade, also known as the fuller. This fuller removes extra weight from the blade without compromising its speed or strength.
Further down, the silver habaki, or blade collar is anchored to the guard by the notched seppa. Seppa are two small washers placed on both sides of the crossguard. In between the guard and the handle is a black grooved fuchi, also known as the spacer between the blade and the hilt. The tsuba crossguard is fashioned to look like a cherry blossom flower with five petals and realistic anthers. Anthers are the bulbous stems seen on the flower.
Moving down the hilt, the wooden handle is wrapped in red tsuka-ito cord over real white ray skin. Embossed on the pebbled ray skin is a silver cherry blossom menuki. Menuki refers to the decoration on the handle just underneath the tsuka-ito wrapping.
This cherry blossom katana comes with a black lacquered saya scabbard. The koiguchi, also known as the scabbard’s opening, is made of real buffalo horn. The scabbard has cord sageo, referring to the cord tied around the scabbard for tying onto your belt. The sageo is tied to a wooden kurigata, known as the protrusion on the scabbard. Please note the color of the cord may vary.
