If you are in need of a steel sword to practice your swords skills, then look for a shinken like the Sanbon-Sugi Shinken. Handforged from 1095 high-carbon steel, this functional sword features a curved blade typical of Japanese swords. The blade has a sanbon-sugi hamon. This is a temper line with a more pointed look. A temper line runs horizontally along a blade. This blade also has a medium-length tip, called a chu-kissaki.
Next, the Sanbon-Sugi Shinken has a brass blade collar, or habaki, with copper washers that keep it in place. Then, the hilt continues with a slim black guard, called a tsuba. There is a blackened brass section with a flower pattern between the tsuba and the grip. A brown cotton cord wraps around white ray skin on the grip. The hilt decoration, or menuki, and end piece, or kashira, are also blackened brass.
This sword comes with a red hardwood scabbard, called a saya. There are multiple grooves across the length of the saya. Finally, this sword comes with a certificate of authenticity and an embroidered silk sword bag. Shinkens like the Sanbon-Sugi Shinken are ideal for swordsmen who head to the dojo often, especially for iaido, a Japanese martial art.
