As you step into the eye of the storm, you hold your Raimie XL Katana and take courage that your training and the warrior’s spirit will see you through. For those who love striking katana designs and stunning blades, this katana is the ideal choice.
A Tribute to Bushido
Forged from 1566 high-carbon steel, this katana shows off a traditional craftsmanship dating back millennia. Carbon steel is renowned for its strength and durability. This katana, also known as the Japanese longsword, can be wielded with two hands with room to spare. The katana is designed with a motif that channels the power of storms and thunder.
The blade has been differentially hardened to reveal a stunning visible hamon line. Hamon is the wavy pattern close to the cutting edge of the blade. The sharpened blade has a Sori, or blade curvature, just like real uchigatana from feudal Japanese history. The uchigatana is another traditional term for describing a slightly curved Japanese katana.
Further down, the silver habaki, or blade collar is anchored to the guard by the notched golden seppa. Seppa are two small washers placed on both sides of the crossguard. In between the guard and the handle is a black fuchi, also known as the collar between the blade and the hilt. This collar is engraved with storm clouds for added detail.
The tsuba crossguard is round and also engraved with storm clouds. This guard has an opening in the middle that houses the blade, called the Nakago-ana. Around this opening are Sekigane, fillers designed to add an antiqued finish. On one side of the blade opening is a Hitsu-ana, a cut-out detail in the guard.
Moving down the hilt, the handle is wrapped in black tsuka-ito cord over faux white ray skin. Embossed on the pebbled ray skin is a silver cloud menuki. Menuki refers to the decoration on the handle just underneath the tsuka-ito wrapping. This handle has two mekugi, meaning two pegs securing it to the tang, and can be removed. At the bottom, the hilt is wrapped through a black kashira pommel. The silver blade, handle fittings, and the black wrapping contrast magnificently with the white pebbled faux ray skin.
This Raimie katana comes with a black lacquered saya scabbard. The scabbard has a protrusion called the kurigata. This protrusion’s notched golden spacer adds regal detail. Please note the cords on the handle may not be wrapped as pictured.
