The Parrying Dagger, or main gauche as it is also known, is typically an off-handed weapon used for parrying an opponents attack. More than a simple dagger, a parrying dagger includes a wider guard to aid in defense. This rendition of the main gauche – French for left hand – is one of the more simplistic varieties, possessing fewer of the more advanced features that can often accompany other parrying daggers, like basket-hilts or slotted teeth. Instead, it is simply a narrow blade with a wide, bar-styled crossguard with a single ring set on one side of the guard. The grip is wire-wrapped, and the pommel is small and acorn-shaped to add some measure of balance and weight to the dagger without creating a heavy, off-handed defense. Not necessarily an offensive weapon, the Parrying Dagger is a mainstay defense for the avid swordsman.
