Description

If you wish to take on your foes in the style of Ancient Iberia, make sure to wield the Madrid Iberian Falcata against them. Made from C60 high-carbon steel, this fully functional sword has a curved blade that curves down towards the tip, typical of the falcata sword. There is a second edge along the tip-half of the spine. Multiple narrow fullers run along the spine of the blade, lightening it for combat. At the base, the unsharpened blade widens back out meeting the hilt.

Next, the hilt features a bone grip with a brass cover. Intricate detailing adorns the brass sections. The brass sections curve back towards each other with horse-head-like shapes. The larger of the two forms the pommel, while the other is a part of the grip. A twisted section connects the horse heads opposite the grip. This curved, connected design helps to protect the hand.

Finally, this sword comes with a wooden scabbard. Red leather covers the scabbard. The scabbard has a brass chape, throat, and bands. Two of the bands connect to three hanging loops, allowing the wielder to choose between a vertical or angled hang. We sell separately a range of buckle belts and ring belts that would look great with this sword.

Of course, when you are not taking this Punic sword into battle, make sure to maintain it with some of our maintenance supplies. It is ideal for wielding at a reenactment of the Second Punic War or another Roman reenactment.

Historical Info for the Falcata

This Carthaginian sword bases its design on a historical original held within the collection of the National Archeological Museum of Madrid in Spain. The falcata was a popular weapon on the Iberian Peninsula, especially during the Roman conquest of Hispania. It was a particular favorite of the most famous Carthaginian general and enemy of the Romans, Hannibal, during the beginning of the conquest. The falcata was a powerful and hard-hitting sword of the classical world. It was meant for hacking and cutting into the enemy.
