A Fauchard is a pole weapon that is similar in nature to glaive, being designed to deliver piercing thrusts and heavy cuts from a distance. The difference comes from the shape of the blade, as the fauchards design is much more complex and involved. Traditionally, a fauchard features a curved blade that possesses a sharpened edge along the concave curve, giving it a look similar to a scythe, although this fauchard utilizes a glaive-like blade, as the sharpened convex edge is much more efficient. The blade tapers to a pointed tip, making this an effective thrusting weapon as well. Featured on the back of the blade is a curled thrusting hook, which acts as not only a second point for thrusting, but also as a hook for catching opponents and their weapons. Two small wing-like spikes extend out from the base of the blade, as much to keep bodies from sliding down the shaft as for enhancing the impact of the weapon. The fauchards head is crafted from EN45 high-carbon steel and measures approximately 30.5 inches long, while the included hardwood shaft measures approximately 42 inches long. There is no denying that this Fauchard is a brutal looking weapon, as effective in combat as it is impressive in display, especially when you are looking for something that perfectly replicates a simple yet authentic looking medieval weapon.
