Whether you’re a Norman knight conquering distant lands or you’re collecting medieval weaponry, the Balduin Stage Combat Sword brings your medieval journey to life. Step into the medieval period wielding this reliable sword as you fight on stage.
Forged for Combat
Forged as one piece from spring steel, this battle-ready sword is inspired by the Normans of the 11th and 12th Centuries. The Normans gained a reputation as fierce warriors, being descended from the Vikings that were settled in northern France, and the carved out kingdoms of their own across the medieval European world. This classic Norman sword is fully functional, forged with a full tang and blunted edges for withstanding blade-on-blade contact. Having a full tang means the metal blade extends into the handle as one piece, providing strength and balance for the weapon.
This sword has a straight, unsharpened blade. This blunted double-edged blade has a wide fuller. The fuller removes excess weight from the blade without compromising its integrity. This not only reinforces the blade, it also bolsters the cutting edge by pushing material further out to make it more resilient. At the end, the tip is round for added safety. Keep in mind that any minor notches along the blade are not defects in the combat sword’s design, but are the result of resistance testing.
Down the length, the hilt has a steel crossguard and pommel. The wooden handle is riveted to the tang. The straight crossguard is designed as a cruciform-style bar that tapers slightly away from the hilt. Both quillons taper into angled points in the middle of the quillon block. The wooden handle accommodates a secure one-handed grip similar to a knightly riding sword or arming sword. This grip has a rectangular cross section with diagonal grooves for depth and texture. At the bottom, the steel pommel is fashioned in the brazil nut style.
