By the 15th Century, armor had become so well developed that it was almost impervious to a sword cut and even a thrust. The mace, which evolved from mans oldest weapon, the club, could make short work of that armor. With a few sound full-force blows the best of plate was so damaged that the wearers movement would be greatly impaired, and that lead quickly to defeat. This handsome example has 8 flanges that are made from carbon steel that has been blackened to a deep luster. The bottoms of the shafts are wrapped in black leather. The shaft is hollow, to help with balance and weight.
