Description

The legend of the taotie remains deeply rooted in Chinese culture, going back to the Neolithic age and Shang and Zhou dynasties. The Taotie Jian Longsword uses the mythological gluttonous monster as a decorative motif.

The taotie eats indiscriminately, even feasting on human flesh. Cursed by the gods for his overindulgence, his body and jaw were removed as a warning to others, leaving him only able to eat with a gaping mouth.

Made from 5160 high-carbon steel, this functional sword features a long, double-edged blade. There is a short fuller at the base of the blade along the ricasso. This ricasso reinforces the overall strength of the blade, allowing for powerful thrusts and blocks.

The classic zoomorphic head design adorns the pommel and short guard of this Chinese sword. Both fittings were cast using lost-wax techniques. Between the guard and pommel is a cord-wrapped grip. Thin brown cord wraps around the two-handed wooden grip for a better grasp.

Finally, this functional Chinese jian comes with a black lacquered scabbard with matching accents. It has a brown chape, throat, and pair of belt rings. You can take this Chinese sword with you to the battlefield or add it to a sword collection.
