The Shashka is, in general design, somewhat similar to the typical cavalry saber. Originally a saber from the Caucasus region, swords like this Black Russian Shashka were adopted by many Russian forces, and by the Cossacks, who are most famous for them. Traditionally, the shashka were used somewhat similarly to cavalry sabers as well, being the primary sword of a people who preferred to do battle on horseback, striking with hit-and-run tactics. This particular model recreates the classic shashka in great detail, possessing the curved blade, which is hand crafted in carbon steel with a wide, rounded fuller, a gentle blade-curve, and a diamond shaped cross-section near the fine point at the tip. The hilt sits flush with the scabbard when sheathed, which is yet another common feature of the shashka. The hilt possesses no guard, a fine, forward-set leather wrapped grip, and touches of brass accents in its design, as well as a tied black tassel decoration at the tip. The included scabbard is made from wood, wrapped in matched black leather, and accented with brass at the throat and chape, as well. Shashkas are not always all that common to find, and especially not in such quality, so if you have been looking for one to add to your collection and armory, then this Black Russian Shashka is likely to be the one for you!
